In 1969, a group of dancers led by the late Peter Darrell packed their hopes and their memories into trunks and boxes and moved house. Leaving their old base in Bristol they headed north to Glasgow to embark on a new adventure for them, and us, as the first incarnation of what is now Scottish Ballet.
Scotland's national ballet company continued to go from strength to strength and in 2009 they moved across the Clyde to new, state of the art premises at Tramway. Whether you remember their move north or not, you can't fail to be enchanted with the book, Scottish Ballet: Forty years which is written by Mary Brennan to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Offering a selection of memories from the last forty years, this illustrated volume is packed full of more than 170 photographs which celebrate some of the highlights of the decades which include some rare glimpses of the sheer dedication which goes on behind the scenes. Put simply, it is a celebration of the company and the talented individuals who have kept faith with it over the years. Scottish Ballet: Forty years is available from the Scottish Ballet online shop: www.scottishballet. co.uk priced at £21 .00.
